Avoiding the Biter: Maze Survival on The Hollow Floor 3
How to survive the Demonology maze in The Hollow Floor 3 — the Biter's patrol behavior, wall-hugging movement, and the two dangerous legs of the floor.
Floor 3's maze is patrolled by the Biter — the Demonology floor's monster — and it turns a puzzle hunt into a survival run. The gravestone math gets the attention, but most failed Floor 3 attempts die to the Biter, not bad arithmetic. Here is how to move through its maze.
Know the Two Dangerous Legs
The floor has two exposure windows. Leg one: the search — wandering the randomized maze hunting the puzzle room, when you do not yet know the routes. Leg two: the return — carrying the Third Night Relic back to the elevator after solving the lock, when players relax and get caught. Both legs share the same survival rules; the return is where discipline breaks.
The Biter's Behavior Patterns
From community runs: the Biter patrols the maze rather than hunting by sound alone, and catching a player resets that player's progress through the floor (back to the maze entrance — your puzzle room knowledge persists, your position does not). The practical takeaways: the Biter is a routing problem, not a combat one — there is no fighting it, only avoiding it — and its patrol favors the open corridors, which makes the walls safer.
Movement Rules That Work
Hug walls. The patrol covers the maze's open lanes; wall-adjacent movement cuts your exposure. Listen before corners — audio cues precede the Biter, and a paused step at a corner is free information. Break line of sight early — if you see it ahead, do not freeze in the open; back out of the corridor and route around. Commit to the elevator — on the return leg, once the elevator is in sight, take the straightest line; hesitation in the open is the classic death.
Route Memory Under Randomization
The maze rerandomizes every restart, so "learning the map" is not available — but route memory within a session is. As you search for the puzzle room, note landmarks (the four-poster room, the theater-style room) and the turns you took; the return leg after the coffin is a retrace, and a rough mental breadcrumb trail is the difference between a clean escape and meeting the Biter again.
The Panic Pattern to Avoid
The single most common death: after solving the Grave Lock, players sprint directly toward where they think the elevator is, ignoring everything. The Biter's patrol catches exactly that. The escape deserves the same wall-hugging, corner-checking discipline as the search — the full solution walkthrough sequences both legs with the puzzle in the middle.
